The present Biakoye District, one of the Districts in the Oti Region, was carved out of Jasikan District. It lies between latitudes 7 20 'N and 7 30 'N and longitude 0 15 and 0 33' East. It is bounded north by the Jasikan District, Northwest by Krachi East, with river Asukawkaw as the boundary. It shares a boundary on the West with the Volta Lake and is bounded in the south by Kpando District. The District capital is Nkonya Ahenkro. The District capital lies 254km North East of Accra, the national capital.

The Biakoye District Education Directorate, which operates under the ambit of the Ghana Education Service (GES), is mandated by law to implement educational policies by the government at the pre-tertiary academic level. As such, the directorate oversees the day-to-day activities or happenings at the pre-tertiary (Kindergarten, Primary, Junior High and Senior High/Technical Schools) in the Biakoye District.
